September 7: Sunday morning, we were up at 4am to be on our way to Gansu. We met up with one of the 4 families who will spend the last week together in Beijing. They are also going to Gansu. The fight was 2 hrs, and when we landed it was a nice cool 10 C at 11:30am. Our guides met us, and we drove by bus to Lanzhou, one hour away. We were taken to our hotel, checked in, and told to meet on the second floor at 3pm to meet our babies. There was one more family from Arizona also meeting their daughter at the same time.
So, we unpacked, got some gifts together, and some toys/treats for Aurora. Kira was super excited, bouncing off the ceiling. She did have a short nap on the way to the hotel.
Here are some photos of our drive in to the city. Landscape is dry, lots of clay, and dusty. Low mountainous region on the way in, with holes in the sides; apparently some live in these. Gansu is a province of 44 of the 47 different minorities living throughout China. It is very industrial, and polluted, from oil refineries, but apparently the air quality is better than it used to be.
Next: Ta Da!! We will have 2 girls!
